Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Plants The Stonecutter Island Plant, one of the world’s largest chemically enhanced primary treatment plants for sewage, has a daily capacity of up to 2.6 million metric tons daily and is a key part of the Harbour Area Treatment Scheme (HATS). ATAL’s team solved the problem of the small land parcel available at the Stonecutters Island site by double-decking the facility. It was recognised as one of Ten Hong Kong People Engineering Wonders in 2017 by the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers and has also won China’s Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize, named for the builder of China’s first railway, as one of the nation’s most technically advanced projects. Begun in 2004 as part of the Hong Kong government’s Harbour Area Treatment Scheme, by 2011 it had become a primary factor in making the waters of Victoria Harbour clean enough to resume the annual Cross-Harbour swimming race, begun in 1906 but suspended in 1978 due to rising pollution levels. The annual event has become a symbol of Hong Kong’s community spirit and commitment to sustainable lifestyles. Completed in August 2016, the cloud data centre in Tseung Kwan O is China Unicom’s largest and most advanced facility outside mainland China up to 2018 and is part of Hong Kong’s transformation into a regional hub for Internet data services. A data centre is a secure, temperature-controlled facility designed to house large-capacity servers and enterprise data storage systems. Data centres need multiple power sources for redundancy and multiple high-bandwidth connections to the Internet. Two ifc ATAL provided one of the Hong Kong’s largest building management systems (BMS) for the elegant, Cesar Pelli-designed Two International Financial Centre (Two ifc), completed in 2003. Its BMS system has over 100,000 sensor points, and it is home to 22 trading floors and some of the world’s leading financial institutions, which demand perfection in terms of building systems. ATAL also provided an integrated power and energy management system for the building, which was designed to monitor and manage energy consumption in a reliable and energy efficient way. St. Paul’s Hospital Redevelopment St. Paul Hospital was established since 1898 and has grown to become a modern, high-tech medical complex in Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay. This private hospital had an extensive redevelopment programme that includes two new towers of 21 and 24 storeys with a 3-level basement car park. The new blocks were constructed in phases and increased capacity to almost 800 beds and provided new medical wards and facilities. Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre ATAL was responsible to upgrade the Building Management System (BMS) with Internet-of-Things (IoT) infrastructure and applications for Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). The scope of works includes replacing the current BMS at Phase 1 and 2 and the Atrium Link Extension by a custom-designed BMS with around 700 IoT sensors installed in the areas of the Grand Hall, exhibition halls, and public hallways, enabling centralised control of real-time monitoring, measuring and optimisation of the building’s performance. The sensors, connected to the central BMS via a LoRa WAN gateway, transmit real-time data on water leakage, temperature, humidity and indoor air quality. End-users can access the data from a cloud-based platform to obtain actionable insights and intelligence for auditing, analysing and reporting purposes, greatly enhancing HKCES’s ability to manage risk, predict problems and streamline workflow. Worker Safety Management System Worker Safety Management System is a customised solution ATAL developed for MTR Corporation to achieve high safety standards in challenging tunnel environments, while also cementing the status of ATAL as Hong Kong’s first vendor to provide Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) based access control system. The innovative system earned the recognition of ICT Bronze Award under the category of “Best Smart Hong Kong (Internet of Things Application)” by GS1 Hong Kong in 2015. The helmet-mounted RFID tags monitor workers’ movements in real-time inside the 26km-long tunnel, enhancing the overall incident management capability. Hong Kong Palace Museum Located at the western tip of the West Kowloon Cultural District, the Hong Kong Palace Museum looks out over sweeping views of Hong Kong’s iconic Victoria Harbour. Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge boundary crossing facilities ATAL Engineering Group won the tender for electrical and mechanical engineering services including building services, Extra-Low Voltage systems (ELV), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Building Management System (BMS) and sewage treatment facilities for the Hong Kong Boundary Border Crossing Facilities, vehicle clearance plazas, and ancillary buildings for one of the world’s longest sea bridges. CLP Power Stations ATAL was awarded a five-year E&M maintenance contract from CLP for its Castle Peak Power Station and Black Point Power Station, both in Tuen Mun, and Penny’s Bay Power Station on Lantau Island. This is our first E&M maintenance contract with CLP, and it covers all electrical, control and instrumentation systems at the three power plants. We carry out all preventive and corrective maintenance works for their cooling water systems, electricity generation facilities, continuous emission monitoring systems, fire service facilities, water treatment and sewage treatment systems. Organic Resources Recovery Centre at Siu Ho Wan A project of ATAL’s Environmental Engineering Services, Hong Kong’s first organic resources recovery centre at Siu Ho Wan in northern Lantau Island processed up to 200 tons of food waste daily, turning it into biogas for use in electricity generation and compost. The Siu Ho Wan facility is a first step towards recycling Hong Kong’s 4,000-ton daily output, and the first of up to six bio-mass to electricity plants planned through 2022. The target is to reduce the volume of food waste disposed at landfills by 40% by 2022. ATAL is responsible for design, supply and installation of the electrical and mechanical systems and building services for the facilities. Renovation of the Central to Mid-levels Escalator and Walkway System in Hong Kong ATAL’s lift and escalators division is providing the technical know-how and system replacement for the Hong Kong government’s first major renovation of the Central-Mid-levels Escalator and Walkway System since it was inaugurated in 1993. The 800m-long system is one of the landmarks of Hong Kong and is used by over 78,000 people daily. The renovation project began in March 2018 and will continue in 12 phases through 2022, with individual sections under renovation while the rest of the system remains in uses. New escalators will be equipped with energy-saving functions. The project won the first place in “Escalators, Modernisation” category of the ELEVATOR WORLD’s 2021 Project of the Year, making Anlev the only winning Asian company this year. Sha Tin Water Treatment Works (South Works) ATAL has formed a joint venture with Chun Wo – Ming Hing for in-situ reprovisioning of Sha Tin Water Treatment Works (STWTW) (South Works) – water treatment works and ancillary facilities. ATAL is engaged in the design, build, testing and commissioning of all electrical and mechanical works. We will provide in-situ reprovisioning of water treatment process units featuring the latest technologies, such as lamellar sedimentation, two-stage filtration, ozonation, disinfection by UV light. When the new treatment works commence operation, it will be able to cope with increasing water demand arising from new housing developments in parts of Kowloon, Central and Western District on Hong Kong Island and Sha Tin District.
