Organic Resources Recovery Centre at Siu Ho Wan A project of ATAL’s Environmental Engineering Services, Hong Kong’s first organic resources recovery centre at Siu Ho Wan in northern Lantau Island processed up to 200 tons of food waste daily, turning it into biogas for use in electricity generation and compost. The Siu Ho Wan facility is a first step towards recycling Hong Kong’s 4,000-ton daily output, and the first of up to six bio-mass to electricity plants planned through 2022. The target is to reduce the volume of food waste disposed at landfills by 40% by 2022. ATAL is responsible for design, supply and installation of the electrical and mechanical systems and building services for the facilities. Renovation of the Central to Mid-levels Escalator and Walkway System in Hong Kong ATAL’s lift and escalators division is providing the technical know-how and system replacement for the Hong Kong government’s first major renovation of the Central-Mid-levels Escalator and Walkway System since it was inaugurated in 1993. The 800m-long system is one of the landmarks of Hong Kong and is used by over 78,000 people daily. The renovation project began in March 2018 and will continue in 12 phases through 2022, with individual sections under renovation while the rest of the system remains in uses. New escalators will be equipped with energy-saving functions. Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Plants The Stonecutter Island Plant, one of the world’s largest chemically enhanced primary treatment plants for sewage, has a daily capacity of up to 2.6 million metric tons daily and is a key part of the Harbour Area Treatment Scheme (HATS). ATAL’s team solved the problem of the small land parcel available at the Stonecutters Island site by double-decking the facility. It was recognised as one of Ten Hong Kong People Engineering Wonders in 2017 by the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers and has also won China’s Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize, named for the builder of China’s first railway, as one of the nation’s most technically advanced projects. Begun in 2004 as part of the Hong Kong government’s Harbour Area Treatment Scheme, by 2011 it had become a primary factor in making the waters of Victoria Harbour clean enough to resume the annual Cross-Harbour swimming race, begun in 1906 but suspended in 1978 due to rising pollution levels. Brescia Metrobus, Italy The driverless and light metro in Brescia city were installed by Brescia Mobilita for reducing commuting times of citizens. The network comprises 17 stations in one line with a total length of 13.7km. The innovative system earned the recognition of ICT Bronze Award under the category of “Best Smart Hong Kong (Internet of Things Application)” by GS1 Hong Kong in 2015. The helmet-mounted RFID tags monitor workers’ movements in real-time inside the 26km-long tunnel, enhancing the overall incident management capability. CLP Power Stations ATAL was awarded a five-year E&M maintenance contract from CLP for its Castle Peak Power Station and Black Point Power Station, both in Tuen Mun, and Penny’s Bay Power Station on Lantau Island. Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge boundary crossing facilities ATAL Engineering Group won the tender for electrical and mechanical engineering services including building services, Extra-Low Voltage systems (ELV), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Building Management System (BMS) and sewage treatment facilities for the Hong Kong Boundary Border Crossing Facilities, vehicle clearance plazas, and ancillary buildings for one of the world’s longest sea bridges. Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre ATAL was responsible to upgrade the Building Management System (BMS) with Internet-of-Things (IoT) infrastructure and applications for Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). The scope of works includes replacing the current BMS at Phase 1 and 2 and the Atrium Link Extension by a custom-designed BMS with around 700 IoT sensors installed in the areas of the Grand Hall, exhibition halls, and public hallways, enabling centralised control of real-time monitoring, measuring and optimisation of the building’s performance. The sensors, connected to the central BMS via a LoRa WAN gateway, transmit real-time data on water leakage, temperature, humidity and indoor air quality. End-users can access the data from a cloud-based platform to obtain actionable insights and intelligence for auditing, analysing and reporting purposes, greatly enhancing HKCES’s ability to manage risk, predict problems and streamline workflow. St. Paul’s Hospital Redevelopment St. Paul Hospital was established since 1898 and has grown to become a modern, high-tech medical complex in Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay. This private hospital had an extensive redevelopment programme that includes two new towers of 21 and 24 storeys with a 3-level basement car park. The new blocks were constructed in phases and increased capacity to almost 800 beds and provided new medical wards and facilities. West Island Line (WIL) / Kwun Tong Line Extension (KTE) Trackside Auxiliaries and Environmental Control System We provided E&M services for Trackside Auxiliaries System and Environmental Control System for this project. Trackside Auxiliaries System comprises tunnel bracketry system, cabling system, lighting system, tunnel small power system, tunnel fire hydrant system, tunnel cleansing water system and tunnel foul water sump pumping system. Environmental Control System comprises tunnel ventilation fans, motorized fire damper, silencer, ductwork, pneumatic control system, motor control centres, TVS control system and tunnel cooling dumping AHUs system.
