ATAL Scoops Two Industry Awards
優秀表現獲業界殊榮

ATAL is thrilled to have been conferred two accolades recognising our commitment to innovation and progressiveness. The first one is the first place in “Escalator: modernisation” category of Elevator World’s “2021 Project of the Year” contest. Our subsidiary, Anlev, won the award with its Central-Mid-Levels Escalator and Walkway System modernisation project. It was also the only company from Asia on the winner list this year. Meanwhile, we are also delighted to have won the Autodesk Hong Kong BIM Awards 2020 with our project to Design, Build and Operate (DBO) the San Wai Sewage Treatment Works (Phase 1), a project handled by the ATAL-Degremont-China Harbour Joint Venture.

The Central-Mid-Levels Escalator and Walkway System modernisation project has seen the Anlev team being tasked to bring new life into the longest outdoor covered escalator system in the world. The system serves over 78,000 people every single day. As its first renovation in more than 20 years of service, the modernisation project is of vital importance to the system’s service reliability and safety. The project aims to replace and upgrade the 16 escalators and 3 moving walkways. It is worth mentioning that the system covers over 800 metres in distance and 135 metres of elevation – a particularly impressive feat considering it is situated in a hilly area at the heart of the city! In view of the vast scale, the project was divided into 12 phases. Phase 1 commenced in March 2018. As of today, half of the phases have been completed and are currently serving the neighbourhood in the best condition.

The Elevator World contest was judged by an independent international panel of industry experts, based on criteria including innovation, challenges overcome, installation techniques and overall quality. Our win is a testament to the Anlev’s ingenuity and efforts in carrying out such a huge project under multiple constraints. The project is in full swing, with the completion slated for August 2022.

Meanwhile, our design, build and operation work for the San Wai Sewage Treatment Works (Phase 1) has also enabled us to earn another industry award – the Autodesk Hong Kong BIM Awards 2020. The project was centred around replacing the existing sewage works that had been in use since 1993. In order to increase treatment capacity while reducing pollution, the project required careful planning and meticulous attention to detail. The award was given in recognition of the team’s innovative use of Building Information Modelling (BIM), the improvement in efficiency and the precision that it brought to the project. The team used BIM together with multiple cutting-edge technologies, such as Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and animated demonstrations, to solve complex problems and implement bold new ideas.

Dr Otto Poon Lok-to, Chairman of Analogue Holdings Limited, shared his delight regarding the Group’s latest wins: “As an engineering Group striving for excellence, we are always thrilled to be recognised by our peers and industry experts. These recent achievements further demonstrate the high standards that we set within the Group, with careful consideration for our stakeholders in everything we do. These are well-deserved wins for our project teams. They symbolised the creativity, technological know-how and professionalism that the teams had brought into the projects”.

Industry Recognitions on Corporate Success
集團連奪獎項,成績有目共睹

In addition to the industry accolades, we have also scored several major corporate awards in Hong Kong, including two from the Hong Kong Economic Journal (HKEJ) and the Hong Kong Institute of Financial Analysts and Professional Commentators Limited (IFAPC).

The HKEJ’s Listed Company Awards of Excellence 2020 aims to recognise the well-regarded listed companies with the best business performance and corporate governance. Based on HKEJ’s in-house stocks analysis system and the judgment of a panel of industry experts and analysts, Analogue Holdings Limited, the parent company of ATAL Engineering Group, is selected as the winner in the main board category. The award has proved the considerable success that the Group has made just one year after listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

The Group continued to prevail at the Outstanding Listed Companies Award 2020 hosted by the IFAPC. The industry’s most distinguished awards put each entrant under the scrutiny of industry professionals and stock analysts. The Group’s win is the result of its excellent performance, corporate governance and investor relations since being listed in 2019.

Additionally, we were also very proud that ATAL Engineering Group received an award for “Greater China’s Most Trusted Engineering Services of the Year” at Hong Kong’s Most Outstanding Service Awards 2020, from CORPHUB. The award recognises the Group’s exceptional performance in five key categories: Leadership Management & Administration, Market Competitiveness, Brand Innovation, Product/Services, and Corporate Social Responsibility.

While we always strive for excellent performance, these prestigious accolades are undoubtedly a great encouragement. Dr Otto Poon Lok-to, Chairman of Analogue Holdings Limited, received the awards with great pleasure, “Receiving recognition from these well-respected bodies is always encouraging. We will continue to uphold the high standards we set for ourselves across service quality, corporate governance and social responsibility, and deliver the best values for our stakeholders.”

Ir Dr Otto Poon elected as the President of HKAES
潘樂陶博士工程師獲選為香港工程科學院院長

Having contributed to Hong Kong’s engineering sector for half a century, our Group Chairman Ir Dr Otto Poon Lok-to has been elected as the President of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences (HKAES) for 2021-2022.

The Academy is an organisation of professional engineers that aims to promote the advancement of science, art and practice of engineering for the benefit of the public. Its current membership includes Vice Chancellors and President of four universities in Hong Kong, distinguished professors, leading executives of engineering companies and industrialists.

During Dr Poon’s presidency, he will lead the Academy to pursue excellence in engineering, elevate the image of the profession in the community, as well as providing selectively and timely expert advice to the HKSAR government and other statutory bodies on engineering matters and policies.

In view of the HKSAR government’s massive investment in innovation and technology, the potential integration of R&D and businesses in the Greater Bay Area and the challenges in the international arena, Dr Poon believes that the Academy should look beyond the boundary of Hong Kong. “The Academy will foster closer ties among the industry, universities, research institutes in the Greater Bay Area, explore tangible ways to translate R&D outputs into business results, and propel Hong Kong to evolve into an international centre of science, engineering and technology,” he said.

Based on the 14th Five-Year Plan of China, Dr Poon said the Academy would also work closely with the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Chinese Academy of Engineers to identify new opportunities for cooperation on innovation and technologies.

Dr Poon has taken office on 14 Dec 2020, he looks forward to leading the Academy to better serve the profession and the community in the years ahead.
