ATAL Engineering Group’s Chief Executive Officer Ir Raymond Chan shared his insights on how the Group has utilised innovative technologies to seize opportunities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) during an interview with the Hong Kong Economic Journal (HKEJ).
The interview was part of HKEJ’s “Greater Bay Area Summit”, which aimed to explore development opportunities in the GBA. The Summit was well attended by Hong Kong policymakers, regulatory officials from Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Macao, as well as academics, experts, and business leaders.
Ir Chan elaborated ATAL’s strategy of “New Technology”, “New Market”, and “New Business Model”, with GBA as a key growth market. A highlight is the Group’s application of advanced technologies, including Business Information Modelling (BIM) and Multi-trade Integrated Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MiMEP), in projects across GBA cities. To ensure high BIM service standards, the Group has established a dedicated BIM team in Guangzhou.
“We will continue to nurture talent and encourage innovation,” said Ir Chan, emphasising that ATAL has trained over 1,000 engineers and technicians over the decades. The Group also operates an ATAL Training Centre offering comprehensive development programmes for staff at all levels.
“Our GBA priorities lie in environmental engineering, lifts and escalators, and data centre businesses. We will leverage our R&D results to expand into overseas markets,” Ir Chan further added.
Ir Steven Lai, the Group’s Chief Executive of Environmental Engineering, participated in the Summit and delivered a speech on “Improving the Ecosystem for Innovation and Technology and Promoting New Industrialisation in Hong Kong”. He highlighted that ATAL, with a portfolio of over 60 patents and designs worldwide, has consistently prioritised innovation and sustainable development to drive business growth.
“Advanced technologies have been applied in over 50% of our building services projects in GBA,” Ir Lai said. “Over the years, we have participated in more than 200 environmental engineering projects in the Mainland, specialising in water and wastewater treatment, solid waste management, and green energy development,” he added.
ATAL’s other technological strengths, such as Digital Twin, IoT, AI, and big data analytics, are being applied across different market sectors. One notable project is the revitalisation of an industrial building in Hong Kong, newly renamed as the ATAL Tower, which will serve as the Group’s new headquarters.
