WATER TREATMENT

Our water treatment design services use processes including coagulation and flocculation; pH adjustment; sedimentation; rapid gravity filtration; on-site chlorine generation; ultraviolet disinfection; ozonation; and sludge treatment. We are able to adapt and customise these services to customer requirements and standards.

We have a strong track record in the design and construction of municipal water treatment facilities, pumping stations, desalination plants and seawater treatment systems for marine mammals. In Hong Kong, our projects have included the Ma On Shan Water Treatment Works, Ngau Tam Mei Water Treatment Works, Tai Po Water Treatment Works, the Life Support System at the Vet Hospital and Polar Adventure of Ocean Park in Hong Kong. In China, we have completed projects including the Shandong Weihai Water Treatment Works, Jilin Changchun No. 5 Water Treatment Works, Hebei Tangshan Water Treatment Works and Hunan Hengyang Water Treatment Works. Our water treatment design for the Ngau Tam Mei Water Treatment Works in Hong Kong, with a water treatment capacity of 230,000 cu m per day, won the American Academy of Environmental Engineers’ Superior Achievement Award in 2001. It was the first water treatment plant in Hong Kong in 2000 to use dual-stage filtration with granular activated carbon to remove ammonia and disinfection with ozone, rather than the potentially carcinogenic process of break-point chlorination. This was also the first water treatment plant in Hong Kong to use ozone disinfection. We commissioned the expanded Tai Po Water Treatment Works in Hong Kong in 2018 using similar biological filtration and ozone technology. After expansion, the plant is able to produce up to 800,000 cu m per day of clean water to meet the urban demand.
