Ir Dr Otto Poon, Chairman of ATAL Engineering Group and President of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences (HKAES) met with Mr Wan Gang, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and President of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) during a recent visit to Beijing.
At the meeting, Mr Wan and Ir Dr Poon exchanged views on transforming technology and innovation into concrete results, nurturing of young engineers and the internationalisation of engineers. Mr Wan acclaimed HKAES’s excellent performance in the development of technology and innovation in Hong Kong, facilitating innovation in the engineering industry and promoting technological exchange and cooperation with the Mainland.
In response, Ir Dr Poon expressed HKAES’s wish to work with CAST to deepen cooperation between the engineering sectors in Hong Kong and the Mainland, create an exchange platform with the engineering sector in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), strengthen professional education for engineers, advocate the mutual recognition of engineering qualifications with the GBA, expand the industry’s international cooperation and facilitate the integration of Hong Kong as an international technology and innovation hub at GBA.
“We are grateful for the strong support from CAST for HKAES over the years, so that we can continue to promote the development of engineering technologies and raise the professional standards of the industry,” said Ir Dr Poon.
ATAL’s efforts echo HKAES’s mission to pursue excellence in engineering and establish Hong Kong as an international leader in the application of science, engineering and technology for the benefit of society.
