Our History

We are fortunate that we have a long-established business in one of the world’s most dynamic and exciting cities, that has shown the vision and resilience to evolve with the times. When ATAL’s predecessor company was founded, trading in parts for electrical and mechanical engineering, Hong Kong was a British colony and a financial backwater. In 1978, while the company was still in its infancy, founder Dr. Otto Poon seized an opportunity to provide engineering services for a sewage treatment plant in Hong Lok Yuen, Hong Kong. Since then, we have focused on the skills and technology needed to make infrastructure work in the most efficient, environmentally-friendly ways. Our commitment to sustainability is intrinsic to our business model and to our corporate culture, beginning with our first sewage treatment project.

Today, as a Special Administrative Region of People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong is the financial hub of one of the world’s largest economies. ATAL has shaped the built infrastructure of this city of 7 million people, from waste water treatment facilities to public transport to intelligent buildings and data centres. Today, we are building the smart cities of the future, with intelligent buildings, using Big Data and Internet of Things solutions, renewable energy, and advanced water and waste treatment systems to support our increasingly demanding life styles.
